What We Do

The Brainerd Jaycees hold monthly general membership meetings as well as monthly
membership social/networking opportunities. In addition to the monthly socials and
meetings we put together, or help with, a variety of community events throughout the year.
The events range in size from a few people helping park cars for other non-profits to the
$150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza.

Some of the projects we run are simple “projects-in-a-box” provided by other organizations
and others are exclusively ours where we are responsible for every detail from permits to
manpower to advertising.

Other Projects We Do

Pitch, Hit & Run (PHR) is a skills competition that provides boys and girls the chance to
advance through four levels of competition, including Team Championship events at all 30
Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the MLB All-Star Game. We typically hold
PHR in May.

The NFL PUNT, PASS & KICK (PPK) program is a national skills competition for boys
and girls between the ages of 6 and 15 to compete separately against their peers. Established
in 1961, the PPK program is the oldest NFL Youth Football program. We typically host
PPK in October.

The Adopt A Highway program is a public service program for volunteers to pick up litter
along Minnesota’s highways. It enables the state’s environmentally conscious citizens to
make a personal contribution to a cleaner environment. We adopted a two mile stretch of
Highway 371 north of Brainerd by BIR in 1991. We clean the ditches twice a year; in May
and September.

Brainerd International Raceway hosts a handful of races throughout the summer where beer
vending is required. The Brainerd Jaycees are fortunate enough to have the contract to pour
beer at the track. The largest event at the track annually is the NHRA Nationals. We’ve been
pouring beer at Nationals since they first arrived in Brainerd in the 1980s. The weekend of
Nationals is the biggest general fund Fundraiser we hold annually.

Independence Day is a busy time for the Brainerd Jaycees. In addition to pouring beer at
BIR for the annual Show and Go, we create a parade float to participate in the Nisswa
parade on July 3rd and the Brainerd parade on the 4th. The 4th is also the day of possibly our
most unique event: The Corn Feed. At the Corn Feed we purchase thousands of ears of
corn to cook and hand out free of charge to the people celebrating at Don Adamson Field.

Anything

We participate in a number of events annually that aren’t listed here. We typically get teams
together for The Polar Plunge, Relay For Life and JA Big Bowl. We pour wine at the
Arboretum’s Blind Wine Tasting. We pour beer at a number of non-BIR events. We are
always open for new events; if you have an idea bring it to someone. If you want to try and
get a group together to participate in an event we aren’t currently associated with, do it. You
will almost certainly find a few people to help.

Socials

We hold one or two socials every month. Typical socials would be the Super Bowl Party or
Halloween social.
